Vineyard: Huebel Creek Vineyard (VQA Four Mile Creek)
ABV: 13.0%
RS: 2.0 g/L
Winemaking Notes: We harvested the Gamay grapes from Huebel Creek vineyard in the Four Mile Creek appellation at a very ripe average of 22.8 brix. The grapes arrived at the winery where they were cold soaked on the skins for 4 days prior to fermentation. During the three-week fermentation period, we performed punch downs twice a day by hand. We pressed the wine off the skins and put the wine into neutral French and American oak barrels for aging. After 16 months of barrel aging, the wine was lightly filtered and bottled.
Tasting Notes: A bright, vibrant nose of juicy strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and lilac atop a background of white pepper and cardamom spice. The silky texture and soft tannins and acidity help frame a palate of raspberry purée, Bing cherry, strawberry, nutmeg, and cracked white pepper, with subtle hints of tobacco, sweet basil, and caramel on the finish. A vibrant, juicy red; bold enough for grilled foods, or enjoyable on its own with a light chill.
