For those who have followed the adventurous tales of our Great Horned Owl Oswaldina, I have a new owl development to share.

I was really moved by the care given to “our” distressed owlet this year.  The dedicated team at The Owl Foundation who care for these glorious birds is really inspiring.  I determined that I would “pay back” by sending in a donation to sponsor a Great Horned Owl in the care of  The Owl Foundation for a year.   It’s the least I can do to say “thank you” for the help they gave Oswaldina.

Today I received my “Certificate of Sponsorship”, complete with a photo of our male owl.  Believe it or not his name is Paprika!  Very fitting for a Good Earth owl AND speaks to my Hungarian heritage.  What a hoot!  To top it off, there was a fabulous newsletter included with the package with photos of “Big Red” the foster mother and a gaggle of her adopted children, one of whom was our very own owlet Oswaldina!  I also have a wonderful invitation for a tour of the facility next fall.  I think this is a great Christmas present for those “hard to shop for” types.  One can’t help but get caught up in the enthusiasm of all those who work with The Owl Foundation.

By the way, I haven’t had any sightings of the Great Horned Owl on our property although I remain ever hopeful that our prodigal owlet will return to the fold to mate.  I just hope she is better at finding a mate than I am!!  I do know for certain that we have a Screech Owl who has made our pond area its home.  I’ll keep you posted if we have any exciting developments.
